CEREC Crowns: Get Your New Smile Within 1 Hour
All about CEREC Crowns: The benefits, how long they last, etc.
CEREC Crowns are pretty much as clinically advanced as dentistry today gets, which means there’s a lot to get excited about according to experts at WeCare Dental Peterborough.
So the dentist says you need a crown. Your heart sinks because you’re thinking about all those appointments and all that time you have to take off work. And, then there’s that yucky plaster they’ll stuff into your mouth to take the impression. You just know you’ll be gagging. And what about the pain? Maybe you should just stop smiling and avoid the whole nasty ordeal.
What Our Dentists Say
Apparently it’s out with the old, in with the new. “Forget all you think you know about crowns,” says Dr Morne Williams, co-founder of WeCare Dental Peterborough. “Today we use computer-aided design and computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology.” This is what the CEREC system is all about; CEREC Stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. “This means that everything is done then and there while you wait,” says Morne Williams.
We don’t do impressions at all anymore. In the past, the patient would have a mouthful of plaster and once it dried, we’d send it away to a lab. Then, a technician who had never seen you, let alone the inside of your mouth, would make a crown. You’d only come back a week later, maybe, to have the crown fitted, therefore more time off work.
Do CEREC Crowns Hurt?
No, today, we take a digital image of your entire tooth and it’s quick and painless. There’s no discomfort or nasty taste of plaster. Then, a solid block of ceramic or resin is milled to precision to create your new tooth (crown). “The replication is just amazing – down to the tiniest fissures,” says Dr Williams. The crown’s edges are even and a huge selection of colour options means the crown will match your own teeth. Patients say they can’t tell the difference between the CEREC crown and their actual teeth. The crown is then fitted and bonded to your natural tooth.
What Are The Benefits of CEREC Crowns?
- They’re better looking than a normal crown. There are no dark lines or metal.
- No multiple visits to the dentist. You can get your crown in one visit so you’re smiling again within about two hours.
- No foul-tasting, messy plaster impressions. Just a quick, highly accurate digital imaging system.
- Your CEREC crown will match the colour of your teeth, so no more obviously fake-looking crowns.
- The CEREC process is not invasive to the tooth surface, nor is it damaging to any other teeth.
- No more struggling with loose, uncomfortable temporary crowns you can’t chew on properly. CEREC crowns can be made to fit and function perfectly from the get go.
